Hey chica’s, I’ve been getting a to of questions asking if I have experienced any extreme hair loss after giving birth. So I thought I would make a post about Postpartum Shedding.
What is Postpartum Shedding?
Hair loss after pregnancy is the sudden shedding (sometimes in clumps) that many new mothers experience between three and six months after they give birth.
This is a temporary phase. In the normal cycle of hair growth, some hair is lost every day. But during pregnancy the increased levels of estrogen in your body freezes hair in the growing (or “resting”) phase of the cycle. Hair that would normally fall out stays put, resulting in thicker hair.
My experience has been pretty good. I won’t say normal because a lot of what I read about on Postpartum shedding has been mix opinions
During my pregnancy, my hair did not shed at all. My hair was super manageable. For example: if I had a single strand knot, I could untangle the knot with no problem. WHOA!
Currently my hair has been the same as before my pregnancy. My routine hasn’t changed much.
- I still henna once a month, (sleep in my henna overnight)
- ACV and Aloe Vera juice rinse after henna
I haven’t been doing any twist outs, lately. I don’t have much time on my hands. LOL So mini twist have been my best friend.
Am I breastfeeding?
Yes! I am fully breastfeeding.
Has breastfeeding changed your hair?
Not sure. Could breastfeeding be helping minimizing my hair shed? Maybe. I’ve researched breastfeeding and postpartum hair loss, and read mix reviews.
What do you suggested to help reduce postpartum shedding?
- Avoid using a brush or comb that pulls or stresses the hair.
- A good quality hair cleansers may help.
- protective styling
- Continue take your prenatal vitamins
